The Hingham Middle School is a LEED certified building for its attention to sustainability, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, material and resources, indoor environmental quality, and innovation. The Green Team is an environmentally conscious club that 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students can participate in to further the Middle School’s commitment an eco-friendly school.
The Green Team has been responsible for recycling initiatives and for establishing and maintaining various gardens on the property.
In addition to continuing with past projects, this year, the Green Team will explore composting options for our building, may visit a recycling/composting facility, will educate students on how to reduce their carbon footprints, and may visit local farms and learn about options for bringing local, organically produced produce to our school, and may invite speakers to our school to help us learn more about truly being “green.”
The club will meet one Thursday per month, more if needed. Students should listen to the morning announcements for more information.
